Academy of Fine Arts

Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Academy of Fine Arts, originally built to serve as Evangelical Church, is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo.

The concept was based on illumination of the historical and monumental forms with accentuation of the architectural details. The facade is colored in warm white light, while specific details are neutral white light. For the façade and dome illumination we used Sigma Flood lights, while Emi products were used for the accent lighting of details.

The church was proclaimed a cultural-historical monument and is therefore included on the list of protected buildings by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural-Historical and Natural Heritage and the Commission for Preservation of National monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The church was built in 1899, during Austro - Hungarian period. It was designed by the Czech architect Karlo Paržik in a Romanesque-Byzantine style. The central domed edifice was redesigned in 1911, when the church wings were added. The Academy of Fine Arts has moved into the building in 1981.
